The first logo was designed by Dr Paul Chen. a public health physician. A vote to change our old logo will be taken at this year's AGM 2001 in Kuantan.

Comments from the President 2000-01 Dr Zulkifli Ismail

Our logo has served us faithfully for the last 21 years. Unfortunately, it does not look conspicuous enough because the words “Persatuan Pediatrik Malaysia” and “Malaysian Paediatric Association” are not clearly seen. The old ‘school-badge’ design is not in vogue any more and the design has been overtaken by time and progress.

We would like to see a new logo emblazoned with the MPA name and depicting the work that MPA is doing. If there are artists among members, you could put your talents to good use and send your suggested logos to the secretariat. A company that we have had some dealings with has agreed to design one for us f.o.c. At the last committee meeting, we narrowed the designs down to four and we shall try to put them in print in the next Berita MPA issue for you to make your choice. Choose wisely as this will be the new image from the next AGM onwards (if all members agree).

Comments from a former President Dr Chin Yoon Hiap published Berita MPA April 2001 In the first place what is wrong with the first logo? If the current committee members dont like this ancestry. Why dont they try to change their own family ancestry as well! They should spend more time improving child health as a whole instead of trying to change history.

Perhaps the younger doctors do not know what was depicted in the logo. The book signifies knowledge is self explanatory, the hibiscus is our national flower and the aesculpian sign is depicted by the snake twinning round the mace.

The baby in the prone position is significant as it shows progress and development - as all paediatricians should know, they were all sleeping supine at birth! Even from our time we agree the infant was obese and had tapering extremities. Perhaps this may require improvement which should not be difficult to correct if we indicate this to an artist.

It would be sad if changes are made to keep up with the Joneses. Newer societies has the computer to assist their designs, so they are different but not necessarily better!
