  I trust that by now you have all received a letter from me, introducing members of our Executive Committee who will endeavor to serve you and our society for the next 2 years.The MPA was formed in 1979 and that makes us 30 years old in 2009. It’s a long period in the life of a professional organisation.

We have seen significant changes in the way children are treated in this country over this period of time. The concerns about their health, education and social needs have continued to receive constant attention.

  Malaysia CRC (Convention on the Rights of the Child) Report 2006  
 
As a State Party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Malaysia has undertaken efforts in ensuring the rights of its children are protected. The Government of Malaysia recognises that a child is the key to the country’s survival, development and prosperity. The advancement and participation of the present generation will usher a future generation that is confident, responsible and caring.

The Committee welcomes the submission of the State party’s initial report and notes that it follows the guidelines for reporting, although the report itself was focused on legal provisions rather than de facto implementation of the Convention. However, it regrets that the report was received more than 9 years after the date it should have been submitted.
